Microsoft’s Forza Franchise Breaks $1 Billion in Retail Sales
It may have started years ago as a brash upstart to Sony’s ubiquitous Gran Turismo racing series, but Microsoft’s Forza franchise has passed an impressive new milestone: Breaking the $1 Billion mark in retail sales. In a blog post on the official Xbox blog, Alan Hartman, the Studio Head for Forza developer Turn 10 Studios, announced earlier this month that “…as of December 2016, the Forza franchise has exceeded $1 billion in retail sales.”
Hartman went on to list other impressive achievements for the franchise, stating that the Forza community had grown to include more than 14 million players and that the game Forza Horizon 3 sold through more than 2.5 million units at retail. It’s an impressive feat for a auto racing simulation series that essentially started from scratch on the original Xbox way back in 2005 with the launch of Forza Motorsport. Competition is always good for consumers, and having the Gran Turismo and Forza franchise push each other to new heights is a rivalry that should rank up there with Mustang versus Camaro, and Coke versus Pepsi: We’re all winners.
